Horsemanship Herd

horsemanship program.jpg

The Horsemanship Herd is an elite program that is offered by invitation only. It is hard work, and most herd members are at the Rescue up to 3 hours per day, at least 3 days per week.  They spend their time learning about and working on:

  • Complete horse care

  • Mucking stalls or paddocks

  • Grooming horses

  • Leading horses

  • Training horses

  • Communicating with horses

  • Riding horses

  • And so much more

Herd members also receive one-on-one training sessions with GVHR trainers, where they learn how to best engage and manage specific horses.  Throughout this process, the herd member might find a particular horse that they like best and work with more than others.  All of the time spent working and training at the Rescue empowers herd members to develop the skills necessary to be a successful horse owner.

As Horsemanship Herd members progress, they are often invited to participate in gymkhanas, dressage shows, and equine agility events.  These are all great ways for the kids and the horses to be introduced to new social situations and allow them to "compete" in low pressure environments to show themselves and others how much they have accomplished.

Join the Herd

This special membership is offered by invitation only after successfully participating in the Wrangler program.

At $200 per month, members are scheduled for 2-3 hour time slots for 3 to 5 days per week.  Herd members are also required to participate in fundraising events throughout the year.

This membership is a continuous commitment that requires a lot of time, effort, and dedication.  It results in amazing growth and maturity and often healing in both the children and the horses.
