Rita came to us from the Center for Racehorse Retraining and thought to be a good kid horse. We have been training her to become a western dressage horse. Cameo is a wild mustang from the Little Bookcliff area. She came to us in May of 2022 as a surrender and was adopted in July of 2022 and then returned to our rescue in May of 2023 due to no fault of her own. Her adopter ran into health issues and did the noble thing of allowing her to return to our rescue. While with her adopter, Cameo began her healing journey and learned to love well. Hank is a retired trail horse. He is also helping our novice riders learn about horsemanship. He is kind and although a bit older, still full of energy! Hank is a great horse and is ready to ride. Hank has competed at our local gymkhanas with our children and done a great job! He was surrendered to us in April of 2022. Queen came to us from the Center for Racehorse Retraining as they thought she would be a good kid horse.  They were correct. Over the last couple of months, she has learned to walk, trot, easy, whoa with just a liberty rein on her neck.  She is great with our kids! Butter was rescued from the kill pens in July of 2021 with open wounds, a respiratory infection, and untouchable. Since then, Butter has physically healed and is becoming the sweetest horse. She is now able to be rode by an intermediate rider. We continue to work with her and train her in western riding. Big Honey came to us from Eagles and Wild Horses Ranch where she was gentles and halter broke. We are now working with her to accept a child rider and to learn to drive. Please help us find her forever home through your kind donations!

Amber came to us from an outfitter operation. She has been loved but struggles from an injured ligament in her leg and was put on rest for some years. Her owners surrendered her to GVHR so we could work on getting her back up and running to be a great horse for kids. Please help us find her forever home through your kind donations!

Simon is our main horsemanship lesson horse. He is kind and slow. Perfect for the beginning stages of learning how to ride! Please help us keep him at the rescue through your kind donations.

Wall-E came to us in 2021 from a woman who was battling health issues after being rescued from a kill pen. Since being at GVHR, Wall-E has hit a growth spurt and is doing very well. He is a great horse and loves all the attention. He loves to be loved on as much as he is ridden. Wall-E is very happy to still be learning a lot about riding and becoming quite the kid’s horse. Paulsar is a main staple at the Grand Valley Horse Rescue. As a permanently lame, orphan, he is working through his healing and while working as an emotional support horse. Please help us keep him at the rescue through your kind donations. 

Max is an original GVHR Horse and came in very damaged with very hurt legs, a broken jaw that was not properly healed, and intense mental blocks with barrels. After a lot of love and work, Max is now a great kid horse and loves being ridden and loved on. He is able to take riders to our local gymkhanas and dressage shows. Oreo was surrendered to us in May of 2022. He was under-weight but so sweet and kind. We have spent some time helping him regain the weight needed and getting him back to health. He is only able to hold 100lbs, saddle and all, due to a back injury. He has been doing great with young, beginner riders. Please help us keep him at the rescue through your kind donations. 

Babe was surrendered to us in July of 2021. Babe is unrideable because of arthritis but is social and loves to be around her BFF Emma Lou and to be loved on by humans. Please help us keep her at the rescue through your kind donations! 

Shirley is a Hallelujah Horse from South Dakota. She came to our rescue in April of 2022 gentled and ready to work on being halter and saddle broke. We are working hard with her sweet personality to get used to the tame lifestyle. She loves to have kids love on her and train her.
